Most guys use spedi sleeves, but I did not when I did mine about 10 years ago. Mine is still holding fine. See how it cleans up. I am sure seal materials have improved over the past 30 years or so, it might be OK. Run your fingernail over the groove area, if you can feel roughness it would probably best to use the sleeves.

I am using a conversion kit from Breezeworks. Discussion Forum: 470 Talk. Much cheaper. Includes brackets, hardware, wire harness, alternator and instructions. Nice piece. Low mount on mine.

+1 with the coach. Save a ton of money with the Breezeworks Breezeworks I also went with the low mount, works great! You will no longer need the stator.

Oh I forget to mentioned I am buying it from a guy who bought it and never installed and now sold boat so has no need for it for 125 bucks. That's why I was thinking it was a good idea my reg still works I may take it off and sell it a recoup some of the money back thanks

If it comes with the necessary brackets I jump on it for that price. I have a Delco 10si, and made my own brackets. At first I loved the idea of not having to worry about a belt on the engine, but after the replacement voltage regulator went south... it was conversion time. I just keep a spare new belt in the tool box just in case. ;)

Yep it comes with the whole kit belt and all. I like the no belt setup and mine still works but every now and then I would see 16 volts then a little while later it would be back to 13 14 volt so it was probably on its way out not sure though . it's only a one wire alt but I suppose I could change but don't think I'll have a problem . Tried some emery cloth on cam and the rear seal has more roughness then the front seal not sure if I need speedy selves but may just do it any way

Yeah if you are getting 16v at times, time for a change. It sounds like the spedi seals are a good idea. Besides with this winter, you have plenty of time.

Hey, for speedi sleeves try Motion Industries. That's where I get mine. They have a walkin store locally here.(P'cola, Fl.)Sierra sells a seal that is .03 smaller than the original seal. The flange you are referring to is for installation and can be pulled off.

The flange is there to install the speedi on the cam. After which you remove it. My local auto parts store did not have them in stock but their distributor did so was a day or two wait to arrive.
