Hello everyone. Working on a 215E . Looking for a hard to find part and thought I would take a flyer on here. The part I seek is the crankshift cable, part # 57842A2. The part is nla , and have searched everywhere. Maybe someone on here has one or know someone that does. My next option is possibly repairing the old one. This is my first encounter with these old drive units so all info would be welcomed.

I doubt you will find parts, if ever. It was only used by very few manufacturers in a very short time frame. You can convert the boat to R/MR/ Alpha pretty easily.

you may be able to convert to a mechanical shift instead of the electric one

Have you done it before?

Ayuh,..... Yer best bet is to find a boat with a rotten hull, 'n whatever motor, 'n drive you need, then swap in the entire driveline package,.....
That way you'll have all of the bits, 'n pieces necessary,...

I've done several OMC transplants,...

Try to find an Alpha 1 driveline set up. The transom plate assembly is the most important. Even if the drive is from a 4 cylinder you can easily change the upper gear set. The exhaust may have to be routed straight out depending on your current manifolds.
The 2 vertical bolts that attach the flywheel housing to the inner transom plate have a 9& 9/16” to 9&5/8” center to center spread. You will need a 188-233 Ford flywheel housing to put it together. At one time there was a flywheel housing that was drilled for both Ford & Chevy in the late 70s when Merc was changing to only Chevy and still had a stock of Ford engines. Post a picture of your flywheel housing.
There is a boat salvage yard here in the New Orleans area and I have seen a few of the take outs, they use a chain saw to remove the transom. Good luck

Hey there Chris650. You can use speedometer cable and a plastic line tube. However, most likely your shift assy may be failing. Do you still possess these components?
