mercruiser 200hp no forward or reverse

Have a 200hp mercruiser engine matched with a alpha one drive.Today i go to start her up, she starts fine. Go to put her in gear conks out either way. Any suggestion on to what this problem could be? thanks in advance

conks out, like shuts off ? may be the shift interupt switch because the cable is frozen/damaged/siezed.

yes it shuts off completely..last year it was only reverse now its both. where is this switch located?

where the control box cable connects to the lower unit shift cable. Usually on the stbd riser.

the prop wasnt on if that has anything to do with it. this is a winter startup
