Been working on my 1971 Glastron Mercruiser 165 inline 6 with the help of everyone here..have another question, of course. Decided to install a Mallory E-Spark Electronic Converstion kit in lieu of points, purchased new 12volt Mallory ignition coil also. In reading the directions for the Electronic Conversation kit it states Brown wire ground to engine block. I like to follow the directions, but being new to this, I am really not sure how to ground this wire and really where do I attach this wire. I just couldn't attach the brown wire to the negative side of the coil? Would that be bad?

Thanks,

Dianne

before the change you should have had , 2 wires on the + side of the coil (brown and a brown with a stripe.1 is a resistor wire ,the other supplys full battery voltage during cranking only. - side of the coil had a black going to the points and a grey wire(tach). most conversions have 3 wires ,coil +, coil - , and ground.

Yes you are correct, that is what I have, but sorry to be so dense, where would I now hook the brown ground wire to, they show a diaghram stating "ground wire on engine" refering to the brown wire.

Three wires, red, green and brown. It shows red to positive side of coil, green to negative side of coil, and brown ground to engine block.

From what I found ,it looks like the brown wire from the conversion has a larger lug on it.
Maybe for a bolt for grounding to the block, red and green have smaller lugs that would fit the coil studs.
