I have a used control box I bought on marketplace 🙄🙄 there’s 8 pin cable with power trim and that seem good. What I would like to know is on the second cluster of wires coming out with cable are about 10” long. I assume the black purple and gray are for tack. But I have 3 more looks like brown/white light brown/blue stripe and tan. Could anyone help with what those other three wires are for. Any help appreciated. Thanks

One of those wires is for overheat buzzer. Ground the temp sensor on the block and see which one grounds. (likely tan/blue). One is likely temp gauge, as V6 models had both temp gauge and temp alarm. (tan?)

The third wire is likely trim gauge. Some Mercs had the trim sensor, some didn't.

If you look up the control unit on the OEM web page, the functions should be spelled out.

blk= ground
purple= switched hot (12v)
gray= tach signal
brown/white= trim gauge
*tan/blue= temp gauge
tan= overheat signal, may be an "extra for an added light? test overheat buzzer circuit without it being attached to anything first.. if it alarms its an extra alarm circuit wire.. if not it needs ta be hooked up to alarm buzzer..

*= can be some confusion with this color combination. on some years and models its used for "both" overheat signal and gauge.. some testing may be required........

gonna add.. if a v6 you can look at tha sensors on tha motor and tell whats what.. sensor on starboard head is overheat.. sensor on port head is temp gauge.. if its an efi gauge wire should be tan/blue...
