Jets and outboards use the same engines, the difference is the drives, a jet pump instead of a gearcase and prop.
Depending on how you intend to use the boat is the best factor in determining your requirements.
Jets aren't near as efficient as a prop, BUT.........
you will grind a prop down in a hurry trying to run in shallow water.
