As you can tell, I'm getting ready for fishing season:>
Started the 5 HP, it idled for a few seconds, coughed and then flooded out. I've checked the usual carb stuff....holes in the fuel pump diaphram, float level and the float valve, blown out all the carb passages I can see, but it still happens....looks like my old gas tank was shot as there are plastic flicks in the gas I drained from it. I've put a new tank on it and the motor would start and then die out almost immediately..take the plugs out and leave it overnight and it will do the same thing....once it dies out it's just always flooded...I've checked the usual carb stuff....holes in the fuel pump diaphram, float level and the float valve, main jet, blown out all the carb passages I can see, but it still happens.
Note it's a Keihn carb and fuel pump..if memory serves it's a 95 Merc.
It acted up a few years back and I took it to a backyard guy..he got it running but said that the carb had more passages then he's ever seen before, so I'm guessing I'm missing the air jet.
I'm familiar with snowmobile Keihn and Mikuni carbs so I'm not afraid to get in there and dig for the issue, but it doesn't seem to be somewhere obvious.
I would appreciate any advice you could throw my way.
Tony.
