Got a 2017 40 4 stroke on a 13' Whaler, hit a sand bar...rather hard. Since then the engine has spit and sputtered at anything over 300 yards running at greater than 3500 rpm. I can run 3000 rpm or less no problem. Figured maybe the engine was clogged with sand so I removed the thermostat and cover and flushed the engine good. Amount of sand that came out was alot. Flushed for about 20 minutes till clear. Waterpump is pumping like mad. Water coming out of prop is warm, telltale is cold off of muffs. Replaced therm and fuel filter...fuel bowel will start full but drains down to 25% or less when running.....can't tell if it is a sand clog problem or a fuel problem.......but I had no problem untill I hit that sandbar.....any ideas would be appreciated.

Just guessing, but first thought is the water pressure sensor

Don't know about this motor but many OB's use a fuel pump that runs off the pulses of the exhaust. If sand is partly clogging the fuel pump it's not getting enough to keep fuel pressure up

Need a serial number

Might need a Rinda scanner to find out why the motor is doing this

Serial 1C483844....40 ELPT.....I saw that design on the fuel pump where water went i one inlet and out to the tell tail I think....I figured I may have to buy a fuel pump....does this thing have a pressure sensor also that I should replace?

Unable to find a pressure sensor, not saying it doesn't have one, just not able to find it. Did find the pump and have to look at Mercury Marine parts, none of the other places are up to date with newer serial numbers

Pump part number shows as 8M0118177

But might be the internal lines are clogged and pump is ok
