Merc 40 4HP single cyl

I have a Merc 40 4HP single cylinder circa 1972 that I am having ignition problems with.I replaced the coil and the stator assembly. The motor ran for about five minutes then quit now I have no spark. My question is do I have the wires connected properly. The white wire from the points goes to the - neg terminal of the coil, the green wire from the stator goes to the + pos. of the coil, the orange wire from the stator is grounded.There was no detailed instructions with the new stator I hooked it up as the scant instructions implied.
