I have a 1995 searay with this engine. First time out this season, ran great at low rpm ran very good temp is good all systems were go. We did some fast passes around the lake up to 35mph 4500rpm, did soome tight turns just to get the feel of things. All seemed to be ok. while traveling about20 mph it started to sputter as soon as that happened we headed to the launch, while waiting on launch traffic it wouldn't idle right and then quit. Could not restart got towed to the launch. Back home I checked out fuel* ok getting fuel, Checked oil* good oil no foriegn materials in oil, there is just no fire. Starter is cranking, cut-off switch is in running position. What would be the next step? Anyone have a suggestion?

No fire...as in no spark? Gotta be specific or we can't help.

if you know you are getting good, clean fuel to the engine, check for spark

start at the coil tower and work your way back through the system to find the fault

Thanks for the suggestions,
Today I tried to start her again, I had gas to the carb which I had sprayed carb cleaner in the day before thinking maybe a jet was stuck. Pulled a plug and it was wet. But I could not get any spark. , So i'm thinking it's the coil. I'm going to try to find one and replace it, maybe that will work.

Any more ideas?

don't assume its the coil

assuming a part is faulty instead of troubleshooting it can get expensive

go through the entire ignition system before you replace parts, it will save you time and money

Ok thanks for that advice,
So I removed the distributor cap where I found corrosion on the electrodes going to the spark plugs. I cleaned them off (file and contact cleaner) and re-installed the cap to see if that made a difference, It did not. I believe i have electronic points but there looks to be a round coil on the distributor shaft do I need to check that too? While winterizing the boat I filled the tank with gas and Stabil, could it be a gas problem?
