Hello,
I have a 1997 Mercury 175 EFI and it is running rough at idle (around 500 rpm) and dying after a couple minutes. As it gets a little warmer it will run for a couple more minutes, but still dies. If I try to add any throttle it dies immediately.
The compression checked out fine and I am in the process of troubleshooting everything fuel and ignition related. Have already ruled a ton of stuff out and am waiting on some test equipment (DVA, etc) to check the ignition more thoroughly and also fuel injectors.
Can anyone explain what the IAC (idle air control) does and where it is on my engine? I can't find very much info on it and have never heard of it... but was wondering if it might be an issue.
Thanks for any help!
