Hi ,

I'm Gaetan from France. I need some advice to rehab the waterpump of my MCM 470. I then have a few questions :

1) I removed some parts (ignition coil, coolant bottle, steering pump) to have more accessibility. I saw that a specific tool is required to remove the flying wheel. Why ? If I'm removing the screw on theshaft, it will not come easily ? Any tip to remove it ?

2) While the ignition coil is off, any electrical test to test its state ?

3) When I will have removed the faulty sealing on the camshaft, what to do if its grooved ? (I'm wondering it should be as the engine has a quite limited mileage (300 hours)

4) The alternator is not working for a long time (I found magnets down out of the engine). I was considering to buy a conversion kit from Hun Finn but since everything will be removed I could also rehab the current alternator (I already changed the voltage regulator). What Should I do to check the stator ?

Thanks for your help

Re: MCM470 waterpump rehab

1- that is not only bolted in but also pressed on the front of the crankshaft. So you need a (harmonic balancer puller and installer- 2-different tools) to remove and reinstall.

2- Yes if you want to

3-You can eiter replace the camshaft, try installing the new seal just off the groove in the camshaft, or get 2- Speedi Sleeves which go over the damaged groove and give the camshaft a new surface for the same size seal. I did the SS.

4- If it's not charging you can troubleshoot it in the manual, but if you found magnets loose they are glued/epoxied in the backside of the balancer. And that would make it no longer usable for the stock system. I would not invest any additional funds in the stock system and get the belt driven alternator conversion kit. You can also pick em up at breezeworks.net
