im thinking about buying a 8hp maraner outboard. looks pretty old and is made in japan could anyone tell me the year and if merc or yamaha ser # 6778021998 thanks ken

Ken;

Are you sure that number is correct as there seems to be one number too many in the 8021998. It will be made by Yamaha. Is it a long or short shaft?
