I have a 1983 9.9 Evinrude that I want to install a Emergency shut off switch, the one that if you go overboard the engine will shut off. I have purchased the switch, it has two wires, one for ground and the other goes to where? Bench testing the switch, with the device to keep the button extended nothing on the multimeter, with the device removed and the button in the in position I have continuity. Is this correct to shut down the motor?

Yes. One wire to ground, and one to the black wire on small plug from CDI box.

Any link to a replacement switch that doesn't cost over $100

I put one of these on a Johnson 25 recently and it worked fine. No idea how long it will last.

I just don't want to chance it . If someone bought it, and it fits and works then there's no guesswork.

I’ve got a 1968 Johnson 6 hp. I’d like to put a kill switch on it, but YouTube has been minimally helpful on how to do this. Any suggestions?

You have to install some wires on the breaker points.----May involve drilling the magneto plate.-----Fairly straight forward.----Or search for say a 1958 model 10 HP or a 63 model 10 HP or up to a 40 HP that did have those wires installed.---

jitterbug127 ... you should open your own topic this one is for a 9.9hp issue

killing involves joining the points via a normall open push switch... very simple but has explained the wires must exit the bottom of the mag plate to reach the switch mounted somewhere ... if no holes are available just drill one and protect thewires from chaffing with heat shrink tubing or rubber grommet

any similar automotive normal open "start" switch would work
or these....
