My foot control broke on my old MinnKota Powerdrive V1 and I managed to get another one, but I had the old one and figured I could use the cable for a little project. I did it this last spring and forgot about posting it until today.

I actually prefer it to the foot control since I can clip it to my belt and walk around the boat and still maintain control. It's saved me several lures that had snagged and kept me from blowing into the shore on several windy days as I tried to land a fish. I know that for about $1,200 I could get a V2 model with i-Pilot, but this whole controller cost me about $46.

Here's a link to a video demonstrating it.

Great idea!
Add a clip or lanyard and it will be readily accessible.

Thanks.

I could make a permanently attached lanyard, but I just tie some 550 cord to the cable and use a cheap carabiner to attach it to a belt loop. That way it hangs about hand high on my side and everything is in the correct orientation. And If I want to get rid of the cord for some reason, I just untie it.
