Gear case
Good day I was having problems with a big bang and couldnāt figure it out. So I changed the oil in the lower unit and had ALOT of shavings and a lot stuck to the screws. So I took the gear case apart and found that the clutch dog looks to have been the possible problem I just donāt see damage to...forums.iboats.com

Lol sorry for the vagueness. I'm putting a lower gear ase and lowered back together as the clutch dog was not fully engaging making the gear system slip/grind. But now I ran into the problem of the pinion gear not properly aligning which is keeping me from putting the shaft into the pinion.Ayuh,...... Whatcha workin' on,..??..??
No damage on gears only on clutch dog. And the shift rod is just in there not set yet. Need to find the right measurement. I had trouble getting the pinion into that place to begin with as there was no room what so ever. It seems as though the prop shaft is out too much not allowing alignment of the pinion but I assure you it is as far back and in place. But I'll get back to you in a bit here as I will do what you mentioned and hope it works for me Thank you for all your advice along the way very much appreciatedRemove propshaft and thrust bearing housing.----Re-install making sure it is " home " and then fit the pinion.----Should fall in place with ease.-----Was the shift rod properly set / adjusted ?-----Did you find damage on reverse gear and clutch dog ?
Hey. So I removed and reinstalled made sure the pin went in on the shift rod casing so it's home as you say. But still getting no alignment. The forward gear seems to be too much forward to make room for pinion to align properly. I followed a diagram guide how to properly put together the shift rod assembly, forward gear and clutch dog onto the prop shaft so it should be correct. But still not aligningI have worked on more than 1 lower unit..-----With clutch dog in the forward position the pinion gear falls out.-----And falls into place when installing it !!---All easy.
You were following what guidebook ??
