Have 1960's 50hp 4cyL MERC changed prop shaft seals due to gear oil leak. now I can't get it out of forward gear. should the lower unit shift easily when it's off the motor? any tricks? worked fine before i took it off.
Your shift cams are out of line or the shift shaft slipped out. Mercs are spring loaded to return to forward gear unless there is pressure on the shift cams to put them into neutral or reverse..
