I have an 82 merc 200 that doesnt always like to shift. I'm trying to pull the lower unit apart. Any tips on how to get the nut off that is behind the prop? Its been pounded on before but I can't get it to budge. Thanks for the help

Hello,
If you're speaking of the bearing carrier retaining nut, I bought a spanner socket from AutoZone. It's not a perfect fit but close enough for $15. You can't use a 1/2" ratchet because of the prop shaft but I didn't any problem with a pipe wrench.

If that doesn't work, the next method prescribed is to drill it in 3 different locations and break it out in pieces.
