Lower Unit Question 1992 40 HP Evinrude

I just picked up a 1992 40 HP Evinrude motor that has a busted gearcase on the lower unit. My question is what lower units are compatible with this motor it is a 20" shaft, I would like to pick up a used unit but need to know what ones will work. The model # is TE40ELENM

it has all the interchanges......most important part is to make sure drive shaft is the same size to fit splines is all

Anybody know the difference between the 40-48-50 hp 1989-1992 Vs. the 40-48-50 1993-2005???

It seems as if the only difference in the gearcase is the driveshaft and top splines. As I still have the old unit, is it possible to swap out the driveshafts to make it fit???
