Re: Lower Unit not coming off

I'm thinking my part is not original or came off a similar motor with a similar set up. I see the part you are referring to, that's probably what is supposed to be on it. I think it's the rod end yolk. Maybe West Marine has one now that I know what I need! Thanks Gerry, maybe I can get out on the water this week!

Your lower unit may be able to be brazed or aluminum-welded - you may want to see a good welder. Before the lower unit dropped...was there a "crack" or a "snapping" noise - if so - there may be broken or badly damaged parts. Was there any sign of damage to the splines at the top of the drive shaft ?

No cracks or snaps, it just came out hard. Everything looks good, no damaged splines or anything else that I noticed. I think the only casualty was the reverse lock swivel bracket mentioned above. Oh and the LU housing. I didn't think that type of metal could be welded? We always called it white metal.

I,m pretty sure the case casting is aluminum. I cashed one in at scrap a few months ago. and can be heli arch welded.
