Lower unit drive shaft

Vertical drive shaft snapped inside the pinion gear. I can't lift the pinion high enough to get the remaining 1/2 inch of shaft out or the bolt off.
Please help.

maybe try a strong magnet to lift it some how

I've lifted it as far as it will go. There's not enough room to let the remainder of the shaft fall out.

i cannot see you getting a disc or cutting tool in thier to cut it in half , what you may have to do is cut a sqaure in the side if the box with a cutting disc & weld it back just a thought , good luck

I usually take a dremel tool with cut off disk and split the nut to get it off, then use my portapower duck bills on top of aluminum block and a short socket and push remainder of shaft back out of pinion gear...

I have a lower unit sitting in the basement let me know if you can’t fix yours
