I am having problems with my 1988 alpha1 inboard motor. It is a 4cylinder and 140hp. I was pulling a skier last summer and the prop hit a log. The mechanic said the prop had been spun and he fixed that problem. However when I took it to the lake it idled fine but there was a very loud grinding noise and the boat wouldn't move. The engine also began to miss and die and the entire boat vibrated. What could my problem be and what do I need to do?

Thanks
pipeman23

Drain the gear lube from the drive and look for metal on the drain plug magnet. If it looks ok, pull the outdrive, hook up a water hose to inside hose from the transom shield and run the engine again. I would bet your drive was also damaged. Prop that hit logs at high rpm and loose the hub, also cause drive damage.
