Re: Lower Susquehanna

Get a couple of the smaller ones. However I have a big one or two and caught fish with that one too. Get the 2-4' or the 4-6' depth if you get the larger one. I'm pretty much a fishing newb but I know whenever I fish the river with a white lure similar to these (red hooks) I've caught fish.

I took a friend with me once to Lake Clarke who usually fishes the river in the shallower areas up in Harrisburg. He could not believe how the cats were coming up to hit these lures.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Good news and bad news.
The good news is I had a successful launch and retrieve.:)
The bad news is the boat didn't move.:(
The prop wouldn't go.
Seems like the problem in the shifting yoke between the upper and lower drive.
The part in lower moves up and down and doesn't quite engage the forward and reverse properly.
Back to the drawing board.

Hey John,

Sorry to hear about you frustrations! Was hoping that everything would go smoothly for you!

Good luck on getting that drive shifting and getting out on the water. You still have time to enjoy the boating season this year so don't let this stop you.

Keep us updated on when you plan on making the next attempt!

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I was at Clarke today and got nothing. Very, very slow. Talked to a few other boats and they said the same. Maybe cause of the full moon last night. Oh well...it was a beautiful day with not much traffic on the water. A beautiful Friday in August, I expected more boats.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Found the problem. There was a washer missing on top of the shifting shaft. Seems to work now.
Now I have to work all weekend and next week is busier than .....
I can maybe sneak in Weds. night.
I could get in Monday night but my daughter seems to think her 21st b-day is more important. I have to teach her some priorities.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

John if you want a chase boat next week I'm available Mon, Tues, or Thurs evenings. I have some things I want to test out on my boat before I take it down to OC.

Glad that you found the problem and that it wasn't anything to horrible!

We are headed out of town Friday night for the weekend but maybe, just maybe I can talk my wife into taking our dog out for her first Wednesday night. It is a pretty slim chance with how busy this week is but you never know!

Good luck!

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I took a chance and took it out Sunday afternoon. I didn't want to do it when it was busy but I was like a kid in a candy store. My wife, 2 daughters and neighbors wife went along. She knows her way around boats.
Everything went well until it was time to leave. I went to get truck and trailer and neighbor and #2 daughter stayed with boat. I couldn't get truck and trailer out of parking space. The guy in front of me in line to launch his boat and had a dead battery. I had a spare in truck and he asked if he could buy it.
I finally get backed down to ramp and neighor is backing around in circles. She yells, " It won't go in forward. I take my shirt off, getting ready to swim out and it goes in gear. She pulls right up on the trailer. I just had to hook up winch and snug it. I heard someone say, "she doesn't full around."
We did cruise up and down for about an hour and a half. I am feeling pretty good about the boat. Just have to find out what the issue is with not going into forward right.
I think I will head out Weds night after checking it over Monday night.

Glad to hear that you had a good day and that things went pretty well. Good choice on taking another highly experienced boater with you!

Hope you can fix the problem quickly and that all goes well on the next run!

Re: Lower Susquehanna

We went out yesterday the 16th (clarke). It was the the most crowded I ever seen it lock 2 was full and the overflow parking was full also. I counted 78 boats at the sandbar around 2:00. A guy had a heart attack dono if he made it it did not look good too many people tried to help and I think that slowed the prosess of getting him to shore.. Other than that it was a good day other than the jet skis chasing you to jump your wake... I got fried and my skin is getting ready to fall off

I was talking to the security guards sunday evening waiting to back my trailer in to pick up the boat ( 40 minutes). she said it was a mess last sunday afternoon when those nasty storms snuck in, Just about everyone got caught out on the water( heavy rain whitcaps over the gunwhales) 4 boats capsized down by the dam, 2 partialy sunk at lock II waiting to get out, and a few were so water logged they could not pull them up on the trailer (No pump???) Thats what I was told, i did not see it on the news but again i dont watch the local news every night..Oh forgot"""" when I pulled my boat out I had what was left of a fishing rod and string tangled in my trim tab got a nice rattle trap lure out of that deal:D

Re: Lower Susquehanna

We are going camping this weekend at Pequea. I am debating whether to take the boat. I don't want to have to tow both camper and boat. What is it like boating at Pequea? Does it get as busy as Long Level? Since I am still new at boating, I don't want to make an a.. of myself.:)

Interesting, thanks for posting. We haven't been there in a few weeks - the last time was a Tuesday and we had the lake to ourselves. The last Sunday we were there we were on the water before 9 and out by 1:00 and it was ok but we could tell it was about to explode with people and boats.

We won't go out if storms are in the forecast, the way the weather has been it's just not worth the risk IMHO.

There was a article in the paper about the guy that had the heart attack Tuesday in the patriot news. Aparently he survived. They gave credit to 2 off duty police officers and a nurse that were at the sandbar who gave CPR to him on the way to the dock. As far as all the boats sinking the other sunday..dono...heard from people that were out that day that alot of boats were filled up with water and there were a few bucket brigades but thats about it. The security guard must have been smoking crack on her lunch break...LOL

We were planing on going out to the river today but the weather dont look good + I got stuff to do on Sunday so I guess its a no-go this weekend.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I just checked on weather.com and it doesn't look good for today.
I guess I won't be checking out Lake Aldred.
I will have to settle for floating down the Pequea Creek.

Let me know when you find if you ever check out Aldred. I'm kinda afraid of that one. Probably rocky.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

We ended up coming home Sunday and going down to Long Level. No sooner got out on the water and it started to rain. It wasn't raining as hard down towards the dam so we hung out until it stopped. After that it was beautiful. Showed my 21 yo daughter and 17 yo son how to run the boat.
We had our first successful family only launch and retrieve. That made us feel real good.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Thats great news. We are planning on heading out tomorrow evening. The weather finally looks like it is going to co-operate this time!

Had a couple of relatives move into the area from Watertown NY and wanted to check out Long Level so I guess that we will be tour guides!
