my '69 6hp evinrude obviously has the low speed mixture knob. i am not reaaly familiar with what to expect when fiddling with this. right now i just turn it all the way to rich when trolling and lean running full throttle as the motor seems to run best like this. what should i expect if the motor was running perfectly?

Re: low speed mixture knob

Normally the needle should be adjusted so that the knob is in the middle of its adjustment range when idling correctly. Then you should not need to touch it.**

Pull the knob off adjust the needle accoding to Joe Reeves' instructions on the Engine FAQs board. refit the knob and leave it alone.

(**I confess though I turn mine towards the rich end of the scale while it warms up rather than trying to keep some choke on)
