loss of RPMs

all just noticed yesterday, my boat is down on rpm's 1 am doing about 25 mph at 3600 rpms, one I first got the boat 2 years ago I was doing almost 40 at 4800 rpms, I have no idea when the last tune up was, is it possible I have bad plugs/wires that would cause the loss of RPM's

Gotta make sure she's tuned up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor... clean fuel... clean filters... etc. Check compression too. Can't give good direction without knowing the basics are taken care of. Goodluck!
