Re: looking for suggestions on a jon boat

i would go with a square back canoe but the wife allmost died in a canoe accident years ago and now has a phobia

One member of my fleet is a seventeen foot flatback. It has a 2.5 Merc to push it along. It's useful under some limited circumstances and does get wet occasionally, but it's by far the least favorite of my boats. Given a choice between the two I would never consider it over a fourteen foot jon, which IMO would be your best bet by far. YMMV.

14 semi V or flat bottom.

Here if MI, if it's never been registered a bill of sale is all that's needed to register it. We only need to register if a motor is going to be placed on it. This applies to any watercraft.

Re: looking for suggestions on a jon boat

Years ago Ranger made me get off watershed lake as I was in a raft fishing and he didn't buy my Ranger Bass Boat just sank and fishing gear was in life raft too . Unregistered are not allowed but now trendy kayaks need hull numbers even on Natural private lakes and Rivers, Creeks in Ohio. Can' harvest Freshwater clams to filter ponds as their protected too.i was lucky too not get checked why I had a canoe full of round river biskets for ballast .Land owners Think Frogs on bank are theirs to so you got to be carefull at night to stab in water when they have had problems .Its hard to see if they have a gun in hand but 2 millioncandlepower spot light in thier eyes gives you enough time to get away . They own land to center of river and Island not water and you have to be respective.

The 14 Jon for $100 is a steal if it floats, leaks or no leaks. I don't need a Jon boat though.

If there was a 17' like that for $300 close by it would no longer be for sale. People up here think they are made from Platinum or Silver.

lantern holder ?

the po had made the lantern holder, and a backrest for his wife, he also put what looks like cutting board over the seats and told me the middle seat has a hole cut out where it was being used for stowage. he also told me he bought this to use as a prop in his daughters wedding, something about her and the groom floating off, sounded like the sort of thing where those funny wedding videos come from:D
