Looking for any 18-19 foot V5 hull

I have been looking non stop for a Holiday V5, but none are available without the I/O. I have come across a couple Islander 191's that would work for me as well. Only problem with those is everyone wants north of $3000. So If anyone comes across one of those that needs some some work, I would be interested. I prefer O/B, but would take a good I/O with the islander.

How hard is it to convert the transom from I/O to O/B? I might consider doing that, if I find a good hull with a bad I/O.

Thanks for helping guys!

Holiday OB V5 is a needle in a haystack for sure, keep on it man!

How hard is it to convert the transom from I/O to O/B?

Well, I think with a little guts and some skill it's likely very reasonable. In my mind it seems like fabbing up a good looking and functional splashwell would be the crux.

OB on a bracket is often kicked around too.

Have fun!

Join the line!!!

Try www.craiggers.com - you can search the whole US of A and Canada!

Seriously - I know they are something - but day to day - would anyone notice the difference a V5 offers?

Might be worth the wait for raynestorm here as I think he will be in the big waters of Lake Michigan.

I'd tend to agree though Clark, besides the Great Lakes and big salt water I don't suppose the advantage of the V5 would be fully realized, eh.

Well, they kinda look cool too;)

Yeah, I will be 100% fishing Lake Michigan. So the V5 hull would make a difference for me on some of the crappier days. I have no problem waiting, as I have a useable boat now, just not quite designed for fishing big water.

I do like projects! I thought about the bracket on the back for an OB, but wasn't sure that would be the best bet. I work at a glass shop, and we do a lot of aluminum sheet metal work, so Bending a splash well won't be a big problem for me. Just re designing the transom to a workable dimension.

Thanks for the link '65, I have been using search tempest, but having had much luck there. I will try craiggers!

Thanks,
Ben

I'd bet a IO to OB conversion would be no sweat for a fella with those skills ;)

You have to use google chrome....tempest used mto work well for some reason CL doesn't like useful aggregators

I can only see positives with a full size transom and a Gill bracket. And with the metal work knowledge, filling a hole and replacing a wood transom would be a piece of cake! Id say GO FOR IT!

Jb, I started thinking about the full transom after you mentioned that, and I agree. I think it would be easier working the downriggers and netting fish being able to get all the way to the back of the boat.

So, anyone know of any 18 or 19 foot V5 hull sitting in the weeds somewhere with a junk I/O?!!!

Thanks,

Ben

Boat 1.jpgI have a 18' V5 hull OB, but not for sale. The only negative is there is not much good post to compare to. I am still trying to figure out what I got. They have a huge onboard tank and I am hoping I don't find sprayfoam when I pull up the floor. I am searching all over to find an original picture of the interior, no luck so far.

My 75 22 Holiday - 200 Johnson OB, does not have the V5 Hull ,but I have owned a ton of boats and I would put this one of mine next to a V5 and I would be suprised if there is any noticable difference. You put the right hardware on a boat and it can be very capable of most any type of seas, that you have any business being on .

I just missed out on an 18' V5 Offshore in Winnipeg Canada on a trailer no motor, for $800.00. Wouldn't have been a bad drive for you either.

Might want to include the 19 foot SeaNymph hull like a 19 Centre Console Striper in your search if you are fishing the Great Lakes. Might even be a better choice in the under 20 foot hulls than the V5 for rough water.

Re: Looking for any 18-19 foot V5 hull

There is a fascination with V5 hulls.

If possible, anyone consider adding/extending their strakes?

Why did Starcraft pitch the V5?

Why did LUND start using it with IPS and IPS 2?

I have been on newer Starcraft SFM models on Erie, on days without breakers, just swells like an ocean, the ride is not that great, been in the same conditions on a IPS 2 and a much better ride. The IPS seemed to carve thru while the SFM smooth hull was an up and down ride with mucho slamming?

I have a 22' V-5 and from what i've seen on here, the pour in foam started in '79, which I have. There's been '78's on here that had plank foam. If you check the Starcraft Brochures thread you will find pics of the interior. See this: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=349830

Re: Looking for any 18-19 foot V5 hull

I know where one is at! I seen it earlier this year. I have a 18.5 Holiday so when I see one it pops out. It is a 20-22'? Just know it is larger than mine...that is why I had to stop and look at it. It has a 75hp? Merc. Owner says it runs, just need and impeller (they all do) The boat is a mid 70s? double axle trailer. Really in fair condition interior.. (compared to what mine looked like) At least it's all there. Ok... why is this boat setting in the field behind a farm house with weeds growing up in it? It is in El Rito New Mexico, about 1.5 hours north on Santa Fe. I get up there duck hunting quite a bit if you want me to snap a pic and send it to you. Oh.... He said he wants $1000. i'm sure he would take less cash money....

Grzzz, is the owner named Greg? i spoke with a guy up in that area about a boat that sounds very similar to that.....big tin cruiser, altho i think it was a Lone Star or something rather than a Starcraft. he actually had 2 tinnies he was looking to sell, and had em on St Fe CL for <1000 for both IIRC

well, maybe i'm mistaken....here's one of the ads he posted: http://santafe.craigslist.org/boa/2590104876.html
