If this is strictly for a re-sale, I must agree with tommybro and just leave the trailer as is, if it is glavanized. Water blast any dirt/paint that's on it to clean it up and leave it. Any serious boat customer will instantly recognize what kind of trailer it is and it will spark their interest. Have you priced galvanized trailers lately? Through the roof! Also, if a serious buyer is toying with the idea of getting into salt water, the galvanized trailer will definently help in selling it.

w.ok...did it again. i just got home from my dream job...you know...the one where my customer forgot to mention that he had a few ceiling rafters to replace because they were rotted and a certain someone (ME) was enable to defy gravity...it happened! first time since ive been in the business. went straight thru the ceiling and oddly enough landed on a bunch of boxes. all is well with me ... but his ceiling... funny stuff!

obviously didnt get to do anything today. i did find out that i have a magic tilt galvanized trailer thoug. i guess thats good.

tommorow im pulling the starter...ill post some more pics.

we got some pretty nasty weather today and i wasnt expecting it. i havent covered the bayliner up yet and it wont fit into my shop. bad news im sure. wind and rain means wet leaves...I HATE LEAVES in the boat!

guess ill be going by the trusty wally world to get a tarp this eve.

well...got the starter off today. oddly enough it all looks good. flywheel is in good shape and the starter looks almost new. bosch made in germany.

however...when you turn the key the drive gear on the starter wouldnt kick out and engage the flywheel.

new starter???

kinda what i figured. i found a battery/starter shop and im gonna take it to him today. i can get one shipped off of ebay for like 100 bucks total. if he cant rebuild it for less ill just get a new one and hang on to the original.

For the starter, a rebuild of the original is preferred over a cheap aftermarket starter. You'll have plenty of help over at the repair and maintenance side of the site. The outdrive you have has a reputation of being very durable. The motor might be a little small for that size of boat but it's something that is common enough to have both new and used parts available.

Nice looking boat!

ACT OF CONGRESS...thats what it takes to get this stinkin starter out. but its out and i took it to a local shop. come to find out, one of my customers owns a battery and starter shop...he checked it for me FREE of charge.:D

He says that the starter is not just fine but in outstanding condition. its the original bosch from germany. he said that there was nothing that he could do to make that starter work any better.

however, (always a however, right?) he did say that there was evidence of arking inside the buttplate which means that i have a bad ground connection somewhere. so...when i get home this evening i will be removing all ground connections and brushing them up and make them all shiny again.

heres some pics...i know you guys like pics...i do.

Re: Look what i brought home...restore number 2!

alright...I NEED HELP!

i cleaned all the connections and charged the batttery and viola...it works! so the starter is good to go.

so heres my problem... i pulled the carberator off and and cleaned it ...the right way. checked all the fuel lines and checked the fuel pump. also i removed the intake manifold and cleaned it out. all the plugs are good and im ready to go...right??? WRONG it wont start.

im not sure if i put the wires back right on the ignition switch and coil. on the ignition switch are three connections...B I S. also three wires...red white/red stripe purple. which wire goes with which connector?

on the coil are two connections + 15 - 1 and two wires purple and one with two wires purple and white. which wire goes on which connector?

i thought i had it right but i figured out that there is no fire at the distributor. it could be a bad coil or a bad cable but i dont know how to test it and im not sure i have the wires in the right spot.

thanks in advance.

Re: Look what i brought home...Bayliner restore

You might want to switch over to the maintenance and repair section. Most of us who have restored these old boats need help in both areas. At least you'll find that you're not the first one that has had the same problem.
