Re: lonestar cadet

densvxer, That 61 cadet is VERY similar to mine! Thanks for that! Are you sure it's a 61 though? Mine has foampac in the hull floor, so it's at least from 62 to 65 (cause foampac wasn't introduced until 62 from the lonestar data I've found) but alot of the styling on mine looks a bit older than the one in those pics. Maybe yours just has had quite a bit of custom work done to it. Do you know if it has foam under the floor boards? That pic of the lonestar logo on the side is awsome! I'm gonna refabricate me some side logos but I couldn't find any info on what they looked like on a cadet, & lonestar had a variety of logo styles & positions! I'll tell ya, I joined the yahoo lonestar boats group, but theres not much help for me there, They all have big cruisers & such, not a single fiberglass runabout that I've found. I'll be glad when fiberglassics gets back up & running, they are said to be the info goldmine I need for this boat!

Re: lonestar cadet

Sorry, Could not tell you about the foam pac The floor seems to be in good shape and is carpeted with good indoor-outdoor. I haven't touched it since I bought it from Ray last october. The title I got on it said 1961 but you can never be sure on a boat thats 40+ years old. I will be using this boat for fishing mainly. Like to get some type of universal bimini canopy for it without it having to be a custom job. The canopy could cost more than I paid for it.
The fiberglass rails need some work. Good Luck with your project
Glad to help Todd

Re: lonestar cadet

I can't blame ya! I wish I didn't have to redo the floor in mine! MAJOR PAIN!! I didn't have a choice though, the spots where the seats had been screwed to the deck had created moister entry points & the fiberglass overlayer held in the moister & rotted away portions of the board. Alot of its still in good shape though. Actually, fishing was my main goal when I got this boat too, but I like that it's an all around multi-purpose water craft. The fact that our cadets are rare antique jewels, that's just icing on the cake, huh?! LOL! I even have a classic truck to pull mine with! Can't beat that with a stick! I've been thinking about a canopy too, but like you, I only paid peanuts for the boat, the wife ain't gonna go for a canopy cost! But, have you noticed the inside trim would be ideal for mounting spread brackets too? I'm not sure if it would hold up to the force of wind while underway, but maybe if you added some extra rivets in the bracket locations and had the canopy snap too the windsheild like a convertible car does, hhhmmm ......

Re: lonestar cadet

Oh, and I'd bet that whoever thought it was a 61 was thinking that because of the 3rd & 4th # of your serial#, which in most boats indicate the year. Not in lonestar cadets though, or mine would have been made in 91' !! (s/n 53910154) HA!!

Re: lonestar cadet

Well, I've got nearly everything I need to geterdun! Unfortunately everything's on hold till I can get a weeks (at least!) worth of warm sunny weather so the foampac will dry out. That stuff holds water like a sponge!!! Then again ... I guess it IS a sponge of sorts, so that should have been expected.

Re:lonestar cadet

Well, I've removed all the rotten wood from the floor. Seems that a couple flaws (air bubbles) in the foampac contributed greatly to the rott ... must have held water nicely. I'll solve that problem with a little can of "greatstuff" foam as I replace the floor. Thinking about giving the plywood a bit of the cooking oil treatment before I lay it too. That should help make it more impervious to water damage w/o using harsh chemicals. Check out the new pics! http://s101.photobucket.com/albums/m76/lonewolf8814/

Gotta Motor!!!

Gotta Motor!!!

Just got me a 1966 johnson super sea-horse 33 hp electric!! A perfect motor for this ol lonestar gal!! Of course, in true to lonewolf fashion, it needs some TLC work done to it .... but not much! Gotta fix the fuel pump (inflow stem broke off) but I'm betting a little JB weld will fix that. Need to get new rubber too. Check out the pics & tell me what you guys think! http://s101.photobucket.com/albums/m76/lonewolf8814/lonestar/

Re: lonestar cadet

It just occored to me that as badly as the foam pac was saturated & the floor rotted, I may have some keel & stringer issues under all that foam!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out without tearing out all the foam??

Re: lonestar cadet

Well, I've been making progress. Got everything off & the foampac is finally dry. Now it's time to decap it, clean off the terrible caked up paint, do the fiberglass work & paint her up nice like. Of course, now I have the tedious task of removing all these rusted solid screws from the cap trim. Tried to drill them out ... no dice, metal's too hard! So now I've settled on using the ol faithfull dremel tool with a big cutting disc. Gonna be a long job though.

Re: lonestar cadet

don't put too much pressure on the cutting disc, and they will last for 3 screws. wear eye protection, when the come apart they can go anywhere.

Re: lonestar cadet

Well, the thing is, I don't use those puny cutting wheels that are designed for dremels, they just don't cut it! LOL(no pun intended)!! I've adapted a
3"x1/16"x3/8" heavy duty metal cutting disc to my dremel. Granted, it's a hard load for a dremel (gotta take a cool down break every hour or so) but it gets SOO much more work done SOO much faster!! Plus, it's not nearly as fragile & dangerous as those normal dremel cutting discs .... as you point out, those things break & explode peices everywhere if you look at them wrong! Not too mention the cost of constantly replacing the puny ones, it would cost less to just buy a new dremel tool if I burned this one up. I've been using these big discs on it for over a year though & it's still holding up fine.

Re: lonestar cadet

OK, just so's ya'll know, I moved and all my projects have been on hold (wife induced of course=[ ) but I'm back on it now. I need some advice= I'm not sure if I need to tear out the foam packing & redo the stringers, or even if it has stringers for that matter. I imagine it does, but I dont know if it's crucial enough to justify removing the old foam pack to replace them. Or more to the point, justify the time & $ that would take. How hard & expensive is redoing the foam pack? And should I even worry about it, or just go ahead & lay my flooring?

Re: lonestar cadet

not realy. My wife has so far scuttled my restoration project. I have the transome on mine cleaned to the fglass, but until I get alot more $ or alot less wife, I'm on hold. Sorry. Just dont settle for BS plywood, get the best. And keep in mind that it has to be durable enough to put up with SERIOUS pressures & punishment, so dont skimp on the FG layers or strength.
