I have a Lone Star Medallion on which I am replacing the steering with a new teleflex rotary system. I am having a difficult time getting the vintage Lone Star wheel loose from the helm stem. I am hesitant to pry it, since I want to save and re-use the Lone Star wheel. Any suggestions?

Re: Lone Star steering?

If it is the same as my Cruise Liner III, it will take a little penetrating oil (diesel fuel works best), a gear puller, and gently tapping on the gear puller under tension.

Loosen the nut and then whack it with a hammer while pulling up on the wheel. That should free it.

I have a 1961 LoneStar Flamingo. I Destroyed my wheel getting it off. I used a BFHammer and a propane torch. NOTHIN!!!! Finally used a three pronged Gear puller, torch and it took an hour before it finally popped. Sounded like a 30-06 went off when she broke loose. I Found a replacement wheel on Ebay, Fortunately!!!!!
