Log splitter. Bushings versus bearings

Happy new year fellow boaters. I was gifted an old log splitter from someone that lives 20 minutes away and the tires are completely shot. New tires with bearings are $150 delivered. Harbor freight has 10” tires with bushings for $60 delivered. The axle is 1” diameter. I won’t be towing this anywhere really beyond getting it home. Can I go with the wheels with bushings if I go slow? Funny enough there is nothing online anywhere on the differences between bearings and bushings on this line. Thank you.

Why not throw it on a trailer? If you don't have one, rent one. Makes no sense to buy tires or bearings just to get it home.

I’ll need to move it around the yard, hence I’d like wheels and tires. But good thought

Well, here is the thing. The HF tires are not rated for road speeds ( or DOT at all ), and neither are the bushings..

So if your going to tow this down the road, you need new wheels with bearings.. But if you can throw it on a trailer to get it home, then run the wheels with bushings

If you get it home, and only pull it around the yard, you may as well put wood bushings in. Grease them up and done.
