locating vin number

cant find vin number 1974 crist craft 253 cabin crusier 24 ft want to get police check but dont know where vin is would be in hull around engine...tks

HINs are on the top right corner of the exterior transom.

I don't know Chris Crafts well enough to know if it was stamped into the gelcoat at production or an applied plate. Either way there should have evidence that there was one. If not, is there evidence of a repair or respray?

Got a HIN on the title/registration?

Might be a factory hold over from prior to the standardization of HINs.

Look everywhere.
In 1974, HIN were very new.
Some manufacturers put duplicates in the boat, under the helm, inside the transom.

How do you know its a '74 ?
If year is on the title or registration, then the HIN or a serial number should be on the paperwork as well.
