Those really aren't designed for a boat. The SMD LED's are mounted to the strip in a way that makes them waterproof, until it degrades. The rest of the unit is not waterproof. It will corrode.
They are indeed waterproof. They have a layer of rubber material that is applied over the strip.

Are you wanting to use these to "look cool" or for actual useful lighting. Being RGB (red-green-blue) LED's, they won't be much use for other than mood lighting.

Iboats sells LED strip lights and that's paying for this free forum.

They can be wired directly to your switch.

People install these all the time on boats, just go to youtube and search. The cost of the ones one this site are more expensive, and you get less LED lights than the ones I am getting on Amazon. Plus the ones on Amazon you can bend, these you cannot.

As for functionality, again, look on youtube. Not sure where you are getting they wont be much use other than mood lighting. Some of the folks out there are using these LED for night fishing because they are so bright.

I did the same to mine..... I put ends on them and pluged them into to switch on the dash. Rather the breaker.... I highly advise you NOT to do this...
Mine attract bugs. I have the ole blue ones just under the rear seat. not too many of them and the bugs come from everywhere....

Agree, I have the red SMD LED strips mounted up under the gunwales of my boat and they are bright enough to see night fishing.

Before SMD strip LEDs were all the rage I installed red LED rope lights and those are "mood lighting", I still use them. But, the SMD LEDs are much brighter, enough that I don't have to use a flash light tying on hooks and such. FWIW, I don't have issues with bugs being attracted to the red LED's, they swarm around the white anchor light though, or if I flip on a flash light.

If you want bright, hook one of these, it's like starting at the sun! I use them for underwater fishing lights. (oh yeah, don't look at them while powered up...)
