Leaky tilt and trim

I replaced the ram and pump assem. and put a new motor on it from ARCO. it has a slow leak from the back of the unit and have noticed on a piece of paper it says to plug what they call the pilot hole in the back of the unit because that hole interferes with the o ring. has anyone got any info or know anything about it?

You need to identify your engine. or better yet, the trim system. some pics would be cool.

1988 Mercury 50hp.. No pics are available due to no camera..
