leaking water

I have a 2000 johnson 115 model # J115PLSSB. when i start the engine there is a lot of water coming out of the upper exhaust housing. not sure how to fix it

If it is comming out of one or two holes at the back of the engine just below the cowl that is perfectly normal.

If it is coming out between the gearcase and midsection, it is likely normal as well. Look for cast in slots in that joint. They are designed to allow water to exit.

the leak is so bad that when i start the motor so much water come out that the nozzle that connect to the motor dont spray very strong. i worry if i run the motor to long it will over heart.the leak start when i got the motor rebuilt. i told the shop that rebuilt my motor about it he said there a hole in the inner upper exhaust. the water come out where the motor mount to the mid section. right behind the shiftting rod.

Did you ever have the mtr in the lake and see if it will overheat ??

The motor only been run in saltwater. I just had the motor rebuilt because it over heated every bad. I have'nt run the motor yet since i got it rebuilt. The only thing i did was start the motor. Before i got the motor rebuilt it never leak water from the upper exhaust

Take it back to the place that rebuilt it and tell them about it. If they screwed something up, they should warranty it.

i try to take it back the place that did it said for them to take the power head off and fix it. they want to charge me another $800 to fix it. so i just brought a use exhaust housing and goin to change it out myself. i already got the poer head and the lower unit off. never goin to get my boat repair at that shop again. bad service
