Leaking toons

Hi everyone I’m new here and hope I do it right.
I have an option to get sun tracker pontoon 21ft 2001 and each side of the toons have a hole and some area look a bit rough and thought to ask here is it repairable or not worth fixing? Motor and everything else is fine on it.

Without much detail, looks like someone painted the toons with copper based antifouling paint and electrolysis is getting the best of them.

I get this boat for free.
The pictures I took are the only damage areas.
Can it be brushed out and then weld aluminum plate on top or it?
Planing to just have it for my family on small lakes near clermont Florida

since you got it for free, turn it in for scrap.

depends if you can get them surplus or need to buy direct.

surplus I have seen them for $1k a set. however even great lakes skipper lists a set of 26' toon logs for $3800 a pair, plus the freight

For a new set from most factories, you are looking at $6k+ for new logs.

you can buy a used pontoon boat from the midwest in fantastic shape for $600 and throw $300 worth of deck on it and drive it down cheaper.

In my world, that may be a bit optimistic. You may be able to find a midwest 600. "project" but it's going to be one sorry looking SOB built in the 70's with tiny pontoon diameters. And my last decking project, done right with good vinyl covering and stainless fasteners, was closer to 1000.

Regarding new 'toons, there are several pontoon manf's in Florida I believe. I'd be scouting them and inquiring about a pair of toons the length you need that may be factory seconds. Transporting them is a pain/expensive. You can do it yourself with a borrowed/rented pontoon boat trailer and binding straps.....

I showed aluminum welder by my area that fix them before and he said he can cut 10x10 out and patch 12x12 on it

I would knock the toons with a pick hammer to see where else on them is so badly corroded. it is most likely that the rest of the toon is just as corroded and you have nothing to weld to. probably hard to see unless you get the layers of bottom paint off.

as outlined above if someone used the wrong paint and that is causing corrosion most likely the entire toon will fail. Not sure you want to take your family out on it. There is a reason someone else gave up on this

if some one is giving you this you may find a decent shape toon with a blown engine , can mix and match parts until you get one useable one.
