Leaf springs replacement

Helping a family member replace leaf springs. Since the trailer has been painted over, I’m unable to find any markings. I’ve done a quick google search on the topic & still unclear where to look for replacement leaf spring kit for this trailer. They’re attached to a pc of flat bar which is clamped to the trailer frame. My question is: Does someone sell the leaf springs as described? I’ve seen kits on Amazon, but it’s only hardware, I’m ok with some welding, but if I can find it already done and just bolt it up …

Measure eye to eye dimension width & # of leaves…
Try Eastern Marine, Trailer parts depot or Etrailer…Champion Trailers is good too.

The bracket needs to have the eyes in the right place. It looks to be held on by the fender bolts. I do not think that is the right thing, unless the bracket is angle iron, so it has the necessary strength.

Eastern marine has a pretty good selection. You will want to know the trailer capacity, to size the capacity of the springs. They usually have less leaves now.

Yeah, my thoughts too, every pic online they're welded straight to the frame. These are welded to a piece of 3" Flat bar and the fender U-bolts are securing the assy. I was hoping someone has seen this setup.

From the looks of the existing Spring supports (flat bars), you might want to start with a set of new Spring Support weldments

Double eyed springs need a shackle on one end to be able to flex,....
Looks like it was bolted solid,.....

You need something like dingbat linked too, as well as new springs,....
Those brackets, with slipper springs would work,....
Or double eyed springs, with rear shackles,....

Check the rest of the trailer. Looks like a boxed channel trailer that may have a LOT of internal corrosion. Trailer may not be even worth it to fix.

Yep the rust sneaking out behind the paint doesn't look good.

That undercarriage setup is actually quite common and desireable since it allows fore and aft adjustment of the axle so proper tongue weight can be achieved without repositioning the boat, support sturcture, and winch post. That said, the undercarriage is shot on this trailer so its not just springs you need. New spring hangers, springs, U-bolts, plates etc all need replacing. Parts are relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme but the spring hangers and probably the angle they are welded to should be replaced as well. And whether all of that is worth it depends on the overall condition of the frame. Everything you need is generally available and any farm equipment supply store. Northern Tool is another source. I think even Harbor Freight carries this stuff. But of course, shop right here on I-Boats.

There is a Shackle there, it is vertical on the one of Eyeholes, maybe rusted solid

There is a company in Toledo Ohio called " Toledo Spring" that specializes in replacement springs. In past years I have taken pics and measurements and sent them to the company and they make up spring sets based on my dimensions and weight loads. You might look them up, have been great folks to deal with...
