Re: Late night call from the Sheriff

Pull the plates/tags. Don't fund the car or the insurance...end that.
Is it going to hurt him?...is it going to slow him down?....is it going to be tougher for him to get a job?.....Yes. So?
Some of the best lessons come at a cost? You have to pay? If you don't learn this early you start to get a mild sense of life entitlement...that things will work them out externally of you. All you have to do is voice your disapproval and people will fix things up for you.
Maybe a few months of riding his bike will smarten him up....no offense.
However if all of this comes at no direct (and I do mean DIRECT) cost to him....it won't end, it will probably escalate.
Good luck.

BP1, that post is when my son was 16, now he's 21. I took lots of advice given here during the times of his escapades. There was one topic that was about him blowing his car up because he couldn't hear the knocking of the out of oil engine. He's grown up a lot, especailly with the states Child Support Agency is always on him. They make sure he has a job. In this state, they will toss you in jail if you refuse to pay it. That was another case of he knew more than the old man. :D Needless to say, after a week in the jail, he was anxious to get a job and do his duty.

Howdy SS.. Seems like you have had problems with him when he was younger. Sooner or later though he is going to have to take responsibility for himself. He has side to him that only he is going to correct. There will come a time when you say enough is enough and let him sleep in in the bed he made.

BTW..Going to Clear Fork in the near future. Want to do some gator huntn?

Good deal SS. This thread popped up on one of the "related threads" thingy at the bottom of another post and I didn't remember it. After reading it and agreeing with your choice it bugged me how it turned out. Congrats on the good job and the herd.

i'm glad to here he straighted out. my bro in law, has a 16 year old, previous wife, has been in and out of juvenile, so many times, that the put him in one of those reform places, after being good for 11 months, he ran away from there. Bro, was going to send him back, but the kids mom said no, now she has him. been arrested 3 times in the last 4 months, huffing gas, etc. he's nearly brain dead from the stuff he inhales every chance. we have had to lock all our garages, watch our keys when he's around, as he has taken any car he can get the keys to. they're just unfornately waiting for him to turn 18 so the real authority's can deal with him. he's going to spend his life in jail.

This particular event did not straighten him out. About a month later he met a 12 year old girl in a nearby town online. Him and her planned a get away. Stole the tent and camping supplies and they both took off one night. That was a real mess making him end up in detention hall. Its a good thing that one of his friends told me what was up. Their adventure didn't last too long since they were caught by people who reported people on their property late that night.

I'm thrilled that I no longer have to worry about late night phone calls rather it be him in trouble or dead. Yep, it is a big relief but I still have those fatherly worries though. Thanks for the replies.........SS

Yeah, pull his wheels for sure. Maybe even a little smack across the head would wake him up..

I have a little more than a decade until I get to deal with this crap. :D
