I have a 1070's late model, in-line 6, 115 hp. mercury. It has worked great over the years. This spring I changed my leg oil and the next day I noticed oil dripping from my water intake. Anyone have any suggestions or know how complicated this might be to fix?

I have a 1975 Mercury 150hp and after this past weekends trial run I also noticed oil dripping running down the skag. I took the lower unit off and discovered I had bad gaskets in my water pump and that the oil seal was torn! I ordered a rebuild kit and Hopefully that will solve the problem!

There is a driveshaft oil seal in the water pump base, as well as an oring. I recommend you remove the gearcase, sand all the rust off the driveshaft, and replace the water pump base, as it will have a new seal in it. Grease the driveshaft before installing new pump base, so you do not ruin new seal. New base gasket and gaskets on each side of the wearplate, new wearplate and impeller as well.
