late 80s mariner 115 inline 6 compression loss?

Lost the compression in one cylinder, going off the hopesits not a cracked ring, before i do a complete tear down, where should i start and work my way up? Thanks

Travis, pull the middle transfer cover (it is number 3, right?) and look at the rings, piston and cylinder. Post back your findings
