.....job!

I will be the consultant for this area of the Gulf Coast representing the Gulf Restoration Network. http://www.healthygulf.org/

This is a part time gig that will run from September thru December right now but has potential for more. I will only work 10-15 hours a week.

My job will be working with the Ocean Conservancy and some other groups to organize public education events to get members of the general public (primarily members of conservation organizations) up to speed on fisheries management and red snapper issues specifically. "Every Fish Counts" is the slogan for this endeavor.

and.....

LNG: Stop the Shell Game:

Shell currently has their permit to operate their Gulf Landing terminal with an open-rack vaporizer (an open-loop system) rather than a closed looped system.

Shell's terminal alone would use 136 million gallons of Gulf water a day to vaporize the imported natural gas. The drastic temperature change, chlorination, and physical damage caused by the process would destroy fish eggs and larvae by the billions. The cumulative impacts of these facilities would be a significant blow to our fisheries. Shell's terminal could destroy the equivalent of 5% of Louisiana's annual redfish catch.

We’re seeking to convince them to switch Gulf Landing to a closed-loop system. The main players in this issue are the Gumbo Alliance for Safe LNG (GRN, Louisiana Charter Boat Association, Sierra Club, Louisiana Shrimp Association and RodNReel.com), CCA and some others.

Thanks y'all for the congrats and words of encouragement.

Just so you know this is not a "PETA" type organization. I made sure of it. They are dedicated to creating a good balance between commerical, charter and sport fishers so that our resources are not depleted in the future and the fishing industry and catch for the rest of us returns to what it used to be. They really try to work with all sides so that everyone benefits without destroying the eco system in our Gulf. Their other focus the LNG is or could be a serious problem if it not regulated or controlled.

It's a worthy cause and one I am excited about taking on.

Good to hear you're on the case. Does a closed loop system take the sting out of the LNG deal? They proposed one for Eureka Ca and it was heavily discouraged. Sounds like they went elsewhere. Good luck.
