Are you trying to put a man overboard kill switch in?

If so I believe you want to hook m to m.

wiring is same as in your diagram. when I hook up black/yellow to kill switch on red side and black on other m or ground terminal it kills one side. Boat will shut off using key.

When key is turned to OFF----The 2 " m " terminals are connected.----When your kill switch / lanyard is activated the 2 wires on it would connect the 2 " m " terminals.----Not much to it really.

The idea is clear.----The 79 model 85 does not have breaker points.------The kill switch connects the 2 " M " terminals to stop the motor.

I understood that ...we are dealing with a concept and now a "modern" solution of shorting 2 M wires

M's that formerly went into the Magneto.

The 79 model 85 HPmotor has a magneto system.---It uses sensors and no breaker points.

The problem I am having is when I connect B/y wire to one M post and Black wire to other M post it kills one side when I pull kill switch.

What do you mean by one side?
