New to boating and I had the trailer in the water today so I could just pull the boat up on it instead of beaching it. I didn't have the trailer in far enough and rubbed the keel on the axle of the trailer and it chipped the gel coat. Should I have it repaired or can I put a keel guard on???? Thanks for the help in advance. Rookie move and now I'm pissed!!!!!!

Re: Keel repairs

Welcome to iBoats . .

Gelcoat repair kit is what you need. Then you can add a keel guard afterwards if you like.

you can buy a repair kit here on iBoats. It is fairly straight forward to do the repair. . . About a 3 on a 10 scale. You do not want to use the boat with the fiberglass laminates exposed.

Not necessarily unsafe, just water gets where you don't really want it.

You got any pictures?

Re: Keel repairs

the actual damage is only about 20 inches long. looks worse because of the black marks from the roller on back of the trailer..

Re: Keel repairs

That would be a fairly large gelcoat repair kit for that boo-boo. Put that on the 'don't do it again' list.
