Keel Guard Options

I beach my boat a lot and it has taken its toll on my keel. I looked at several keel guard options and they are very expensive. I want something economical but durable. I saw online someone used gorilla tape as a keel guard, which originally I thought was funny, but perhaps if I double or triple the layers in a pyramid pattern. It might be doable. I saw gorilla tape in a 3" wide roll, so that would be a plus. Just want to see if this is feasible or am I too hopeful in an economical option such as this. I am looking for ideas or comments that could steer me in the right direction.

I'd recommend this...
Buy some Roll on Truck Liner from WalMart. Sand the area of the Keel with 60 Girt and Wipe down with acetoneTape off the Keel in the area where the Keel Guard would be applied. Roll on multiple layers of the BedLiner material. It's VERY tough and durable. One of our members recently did this but has NOT had time to use it and post results. I'm bettin' it'll work GREAT. Total cost will be under $50 bucks.

This iBoater did it. Hasn't splashed her yet so No "Hands on Results" yet. I'm bettin unless he barrels into hard concrete it'll stand up well.

I put a Keel Guard on a fiberglass boat back in 2000, no problems. My question, has anyone put a Keel Guard on an aluminum boat? Just bought an Xpress XP180, it does not have a support brace welded down the keel like some aluminum boats, looking to protect the center line welds. Thanks for input.
