Sunset about 30-40 minutes agoWas that taken at dawn or sunset....red sky in morning....sailor take warning....the day that Sandy arrived, the sky was that same color red....
and when it the water rose, I had gone out and bought the last 2 gas cans in the hardware store. In this pic, it is 4 hrs before high tide, at when the tide came in at about 6pm the water was about 6 feet higher than it is in this pic, the houses in this spot all had water in them. Our house is at the top of a hill elevated by 80 feet above sea level so we were fine. Just now power for 2 weeks had some gas stored up but wound up siphoning gas out of the boat to keep the generator running!

we had very little damage other than downed trees, but the South Shore of Long Island had catastrophic damage.
Last Suwannee trip I hit a 2x4 at wot . Woke me up and sheared a pin was all thankfully..Then early the next morning after doing the deed at the marina, as a low fog hugged the water and the sun was about to top to ridge I put her on a slow plane and BLAM! Hit the 2x8 floating under the light fog. Don't think I would haves seen it even without the fog as it was dead calm and a 2x floating is hard so see without and wind/breeze to break up the ripples.
Oh well, new chapter of boating hopefully about to begin I'll either have to rig up a bed or do shore camping. What I do have is lots of good times in that one. Favorite boat I've ever owned and I've had 20.
That's an amazing sub with such a deadly history its crazy the were able to find it in one piece!View attachment 370923Not a particularly great photo, but kinda' the best I could grab. I got to visit the H.L. Hunley over the weekend. Very cool place and neat to see a 150 submarine.
