2002 Mercruiser MX 6.2L MPI. I was cruising the harbor with the family, boat was running great, 3 hour into it then it just quit. Could not get restart in neutral 0 throttle. Had to use throttle to get started. It was hard starting even with throttle. I could not get it back to 0 throttle and shift into gear fast enough to keep it running. I adjusted the throttle linkage so it idled at 1000 to 1100 RPM. I was then able to start without having to give it throttle. I motored out of that harbor at the raised idle and ran about 3000 3500 RPM back to my harbor. Boat ran great at the raised idle and under load. All gauges read good. The boat is beeping telling me it has stored a code. I'm trying to find a shop that can get that code for me.
Meantime:
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor look good.
fuel filter contents showed no water or particulates.
all fluids are good.
Fuel pump comes on for 3 seconds or so, tells me the ecm is functioning.
The way it just completely cut out, like I turned off the key leads me to think sensor. Does this sound familiar to anybody?
