Just how much bigger is a 22 foot super sport versus a 16 foot?

OK yes I can do the math. I realize they are 6 feet longer, but how about the draft, beam and gunnel height? Would a 22 footer be too big for small lakes?

Would they be that much better on bigger rougher water? I have a 16 foot super sport. The gunnels come to my lower thigh which doesn’t give me the greatest confidence when we are being tossed around in the waves while trolling for salmon

In a perfect world, you need at least 3 tin boats.. A 12-14' tiller steer, a 14-16' outboard, and a 18-25'.

22' will draft more, but still ok in 2' of water or so. The limitations will come more with the quality of the launch..

I thought the draft might be reasonable still. But whAt about the gunnel height? Are the 22’s much higher in freeboard? (Not sure if that’s the right term)

I think it would be the same as my Offshore V 18, and they are about 3' or so.. Much taller than the gunnels on my 14' Holiday

Big tin boats are stable on rough water, but they are so light that they get blown around. It is a compromise.

Depends on v5 or classic, but they're a lot bigger. I can pretty much fit a 16 footer in the cockpit of my v5.

Interior depth is 27 (v5 - the deck sits higher to accomodate the deeper V) or 31in(classic) on the 22s vs 16s. Beam is about a foot for the classic and 20 in wider with the v5.

Depends on the small lake. I run mine on small lakes sometimes.

Thanks, this is great info. I’ve located a 22’ classic super but the pricing is still covid-high. I might have to wait until the post covid price crash

Here's some specs on the different size classic super sports. I have a 1976 22 foot and I say go for it, the 22's are rare. Note not to look at the V5 specs on this if you are buying the classic hull.
