I hear you. Mrs Ken has worked for the leading eye doctor and laser eye surgeon in this area for the last 19 years. His advice is "cheap and cheerful" sunglasses are just fine but you must wear them whenever you need to or you will be in to see him years before your time for cataract surgery.
We have pairs of sunglasses everywhere. Cars, boat, cottage, trailer, toolboxes, garage and my desk at work. So far no cataracts !!! :D
Problem is, most of the damage is done when you where a kid. How often did you wear sun glasses as a kid? Heck, we didn't even wear suntan lotion.

Steep and Cheap has Costa's on sale quite often. They run a product for 20-30 minutes and then switch to another so you have to check back often. Seems like when I bought my Costa's from them they were running a lot of them that day. Since there's a time limit you don't have much time to research the item or else the colors/style will be gone. Anyways the Costa's I got were regularly $200 but they had them for $65. I received them they are almost to small for my noggin. They fit too tight and and look too small. They have a ton of models/styles so be careful when you order online. You need to go to the Costa web site and see what kind of face each style fits best.
I haven't worn them much but the polarization is better then other sunglasses i've owned. They are the 400 lenses and they do give a HD look compared to my cheaper sunglasses.

I went to west marine and tried on the same style pair as the ones I ended up buying. They were $190 at west marine.

I have a small head and the glasses I bought are a medium fit. They are a perfect fit for me but like you noted the glasses are a little smaller than I thought they would be.

I'll have to check out the steep and cheap site. It sounds interesting.

I have a set of Cosat's with the 580 lenses. Crisp clear image, and excellent polarization. Expensive sun glasses but cheep insurance for the amount of time I spend outside and on the water.

if you bought anything at west marine, you porb overpaid. They sell a roll of duck tape for 16 bucks, i mean come on! And there is a dollar store right next door, that sells the same thing for a dollar.

But my vision is perfect. 20/20. And i try not to use sunblock, It takes me a few weeks in the spring to get a base tan, and i usually end up burning once, then i have a base tan, and don't need the sun block anymore. Unless i am out in the sun all day for a week straight.
You get dark enough your skin can take the sun.

I owned a pair of Maui Jim's once and really liked the clarity of the lens. If you spend all day out on the water you really need a dark lens.

I'm with you on that. I went up there to buy the liitle brass plugs that go in the side of your manifold risers. They wanted some outrageous price. I swung by my local marina and asked if they had any and the mechanic gave me a couple out of his tool box for nothing.

After the fact I'n sure I could have gotten them from a hardware store for a buck or 2

a block pulley, for a sailboat is 100 to 200 bucks there. And all it is is a pully bolted to a tackle that will let you hook it into something.
