I got my new starter for my new motor I put it in and it fired right up no problems. I shut it off then this morning I went to start it and it acts like a low battery so i put jumper cables on it and it still won't turn over fast enough to start it and the positive wires are smoking what could it be. It a 95 4.3 mercruiser

i'd say take the starter back. make sure your connections are clean. also are the positive wires the proper gauge

Take the spark plugs out of the engine and see how it turns over.

Have you tried since the starting problem with your new starter? If you did, and it still turns easy. Take the starter back.
