Johnson Seahorse 40: Started problem

Looking for some ideas on my 1961 (so I'm told) Johnson 40 Seahorse. When I got the boat the starter barely turned. Since getting the motor running well (carb kit, new impeller, etc...) the starter finally gave out. I pull start it easily, but not what I want.

I have searched this forum (mostly), and a couple of others. I've looked for rebuilds on the web and have come up with nothing. A local shop told me to go to a automotive shop to have them rebuild. I can't find anyone that will do it. :(

Here are the particulars:
Model: RDS23
Original Starter part # 278 232
Replacement part # OMC 0381865

I'd appreciate any ideas you might have.

Thanks.

did you try ebay? Not sure what you are willing to pay for a starter.

Look in the yellow pages. Auto parts. There should be a rebuilder there.
